Directed research by scientists and engineers on new cleaner products and production methods, including substitutes for toxic chemicals. Research sponsors included U.S. EPA, U.S. DOE, major manufacturing companies, such as General Motors and United Technologies Company, Green Seal environmental labeling organization, foundations and non-governmental organizations.
